When Is The Best Time To Take Maternity Photos
A simple guide to timing your maternity photoshoot, from the best weeks to book to when to schedule.
The moment you find out you're expecting, a new feeling of excitement takes over. It grows as your due date gets closer, and pretty soon your whole life is about your baby. Before that happens, a maternity photoshoot is a lovely way to preserve this stage, and to show your child one day the bond you shared before they arrived.
When to have your session
The best time can depend on you and your body, but most maternity photoshoots happen between 28 and 36 weeks, around the seventh or eighth month. This is when your belly has a round, pronounced shape that photographs beautifully, and you're usually still comfortable moving around. Leaving it too close to your due date can mean more tiredness and less comfort on the day, and babies do sometimes arrive early, so booking on the earlier side of that window is the safer bet.
When to book
Once you've settled on timing, book at least two weeks ahead. Photographers, especially in busy seasons, are not always available on short notice, so getting your date locked in early means one less thing to think about as your due date approaches.
